Tips for Balancing Your Home’s Lighting Elements
While you’re considering what types of lighting fixtures and elements that are right for your home, it’s important to look at the big picture and how these elements will work together and balance each other out. In this post, we will discuss ways in which you can perfectly balance your home’s lighting elements.
First, it’s important to understand how to layer illumination throughout your home. The general rule of thumb is that you should install a minimum of two or three of the main styles of interior lighting which we will give an overview of below.
Ambient, or general lighting, is best described as lighting that is intended to light up an entire room or space. Typically, ambient lighting is achieved with the installation of light fixtures on to the ceiling whether they hang or are tightly affixed. Basically, ambient lighting is the key source of lighting in people’s homes.
It’s no surprise that the purpose of accent lighting is to focus attention on (or accent) features or artwork in your home. The use of accent lighting draws your eye to whatever the light is illuminating. Also, accent lighting should work with or without your ambient lighting being turned on.
Again, the purpose of task lighting, is in its name. Task lighting is installed in areas where extra light is needed to accomplish tasks. Common locations for task lighting include in one’s kitchen or study.
