Why a Gas Fireplace from Hodgson Light and Log May be Right for You

There are several different types of gas fireplaces to choose from for your home. The most commonly available and used are freestanding logs, gas insert, or a built-in gas fireplace. Freestanding logs are faux wooden logs that are placed into a wood burning fireplace that has been converted to gas – the open flame from the gas line and the screened or fireplace face front make this look and feel like a wood burning fireplace. A gas insert also uses an existing wood burning fireplace; however, it is fully enclosed in the all-in-one-insert box that is vented through the chimney. Built in gas fireplaces are different than the other gas fireplaces we have mentioned because they are not installed in an already existing wood burning fireplace. Typically these gas fireplaces are vented through to the outside through and exterior wall.

Why choose a gas fireplace? Well, number one is the fact that you don’t have to worry about gathering and hauling wood into your home. Burning wood also creates ash which can be a pain to clean up. Gas fireplaces of all kinds today produce a good amount of heat and are energy efficient. As far as maintenance, unlike wood burning fireplaces, gas fireplaces don’t need to be tended to. In fact, outside of an annual check, there’s really nothing that needs to be done at all. You also don’t have to worry about having an expensive chimney installed, which gives you freedom to install a fireplace almost anywhere in your home. With a gas fireplace it’s easy to control heat output, whereas with a wood burning fireplace, that’s a bit trickier.
